Job Purpose
Formby Befriending Scheme is a small local charity which aims to reduce loneliness and social isolation among older adults who are resident in the Formby, Hightown and Ince Blundell areas of Sefton, Merseyside. You will be supported within a small befriending team along with the volunteers and charity Trustees who oversee the work of the charity.
Our values are about caring, support and empowering people to live their lives to the full. Historically, at the heart of the Charity were Volunteers or ‘Befrienders’ who visited members on a one-to-one basis each week to chat and provide companionship. This work still continues for those who are housebound.
Increasingly our aim is to support people back into the community socially. There is now also a small group of Telephone Befrienders who provide regular support, or short interventions when needed, and who will also be supporting the new reablement referrals.
Working as part of a team your role will involve coordinating a 12-month project to provide daily contact with people who have recently been discharged from hospital. This would involve contacting, visiting, liaising with carers and other agencies and onward referral to enable them in their recovery and rehabilitation. It is not a care role although you will liaise with people involved in the care of the individual. You will also support the work of the team through regular coffee clubs, the popular Holiday at Home programme and other Scheme activities. And provide cover for the Scheme Co-ordinator when necessary.
