The Formby Befriending Scheme offers companionship and support to older people who have become isolated or who are no longer able to get out as much as they used to.
Our main aim is to match volunteers to older people in Formby, Hightown and Ince Blundell who might benefit from the regular companionship of a ‘Befriender’.
Many older people become lonely when they lose a loved one or family move away from the area; sometimes their mobility declines or they develop health problems that result in them being confined to the house more often. This can make them feel very isolated and lead to increased anxiety or, in some cases, depression.
Regular Coffee Clubs are held to provide a meeting place for people involved in the Formby Befriending Scheme and others who perhaps live alone or simply want to make new friends.

A huge thank you to everyone at Formby Squirrels Community Club for their fantastic support.
Their recent fundraiser, selling bacon butties, cakes, tea and coffee, raised an amazing £350 for our charity. We are incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who gave their time, everyone who donated cakes and refreshments, and all those who came along to support the event.
